“I am Sid Ahmed El Mah, a local guide specializing in tailor-made journeys and tours across Mauritania. Born in Oued Akerdil, near the Guelb El Richat in the heart of the Adrar region, I grew up in Ouadane, a historic town steeped in culture. My life has always been closely linked to the desert—its trails, its camps, and the nomadic traditions that define this extraordinary part of the Sahara.”
A story deeply rooted in the nomadic heritage of Mauritania
“My father, born into a nomadic family from Ouadane, spent years traveling the desert routes connecting Ouadane, Chinguetti, and Atar. As a desert transporter, he knew every oasis and every valley. It was alongside him that I learned orientation, how to read the dunes, and the hidden routes of the Mauritanian Sahara.
My mother, born in the N’Mour wadi, is a jewelry artisan and a member of a women’s cooperative in Zouerate. Since the 1990s, she has been crafting traditional jewelry using minerals from the desert. Through her, I grew up immersed in a culture of sharing, hospitality, and the passing on of traditions. ”

“Passionate about Mauritania and astronomy, I have been guiding French-speaking travelers since 1998, working with both Mauritanian and French agencies.
With this experience, I established my own agency,
Oeil du Désert – Mauritania Voyages,
to create authentic journeys that are personal, respectful, and rooted in local traditions. ”
